Most of the packaging that holds the food we consume is neither renewable nor natural. Even a biodegradable plastic like poly(butylene succinate) (PBS)—which moved the packaging industry a step in the right environmental direction—has conventionally been made using petroleum-based feedstock. Myriant changes that with our bio-based succinic acid.
Succinic acid is one of the two primary intermediates used to manufacture PBS, and is a building block chemical in the production of 1,4-butanediol (BDO). Myriant's bio-succinic acid is a true drop-in replacement for petroleum-based succinic acid, enabling manufacturers to produce a truly bio-based, biodegradable polymer.
Dropping our bio-succinic acid into existing formulations is virtually seamless, yet the business impact is tremendous, offering a reduced carbon footprint with no compromise in performance.
