Senior Process Engineer (Myriant Corporation; Woburn, Massachusetts): Perform downstream process development experiments for specialty chemicals recovery on laboratory scale using unit operations like membrane filtrations, ion exchange, color removal and crystallization to maximize purity and product recovery. Assist in design, development and optimization of biobased organic acids and other specialty chemicals at lab and pilot scale. Draft commissioning procedures, automation interlock descriptions and commissioning close out documents. Prepare baseline calculation sheets that keep track of the performance of each unit to ensure compliance with the process guarantees provided by the vendor. Perform experiments for integration of intermediate organic acid process with further downstream product process train for next generation products. Conduct research and lab experiments for extracting fermentable sugars like xylose and glucose from biomass feed stocks for high value chemicals. Responsible for lab scale processing of cellulosic sugars based broth to produce organic acid crystals and formation of esters. Assist in preparing Process Flow Diagrams, material and heat balance, and cost estimations for Myriant's next commercial scale plant. Support operations at demonstration scale plant working with operators and maintenance technicians to ensure safe, optimum and efficient plant operations. Assist in conducting trials at partner and other vendor sites. Analyze data, generate technical reports and present data. Be a liaison for the processing technologies group with the Scale-up and Engineering departments. Minimum requirements are: Master's degree* in Chemical Engineering or a related field with solid knowledge of chemical process unit operations, plus two years of post-Master's degree experience as a Chemical or Process Engineer working in a R&D facility or a pilot/commercial plant in a relevant field. [*Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or a related field with solid knowledge of chemical process unit operations and one (1) year of experience as a Chemical or Process Engineer working in a R&D facility or a pilot/commercial plant in a relevant field will substitute for a Master's degree in the fields listed and 2 years of post-Master's degree experience as a Chemical or Process Engineer working in a R&D facility or a pilot/commercial plant in a relevant field.] Must have: (1) Proven knowledge of chemical downstream recovery process unit operations.
