Director of Engineering, Senior Process Engineer and Process Engineer

Summary

Myriant Lake Providence is a commercial renewable chemicals manufacturing facility producing bio-succinic acid in Lake Providence, LA. Myriant is seeking to expand its Engineering Team and is looking for enthusiastic individuals to fulfill a Director of Engineering, Senior Process Engineer and Process Engineer. The Engineering team at Myriant is responsible for the management of on-site biochemical/process engineering projects.

General Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Operations Group to develop process methods, documentation, and metrics measurements to ensure that processes or procedures are sustainable and to ensure conformity with quality specifications.
  • Lead or support deviation investigations including troubleshooting associated with process equipment, operations, and quality control, to repair or enhance uptime, quality, and safety.
  • Implementation of corrective actions and change controls for process improvements, enhancements, and process equipment upgrades/changes through Capital Projects.
  • Actively use project management tools to independently manage medium/large-sized projects. Process control and design, standardization of best practices across facility, continuous improvements in efficiencies and cost savings.
  • Develop and maintain plans and specifications for construction. Develop and communicate clear project components, durations, scopes, etc.
  • All levels of engineering should assist with the development of SOPs; participate in HAZOP reviews; comply with all company safety regulations, company policies, and actively participate in safety programs.
  • Interact with vendors and/or design/engineering firm teams to design and specify process equipment and testing.
  • Interact with staff in R&D, Finance, Business Development and other divisions for data analysis and reviews.
  • Moderate travel (15%) to vendor, and other sites in US and abroad.

Director of Engineering Specific Responsibilities:

  • Develop business cases for projects linked to strategic and financial plans; evaluating technical and operational requirements; developing conceptual models and performing feasibility studies; cost estimation; oversee preparation of design and installation specifications and bid packages; evaluating bid packages; overseeing performance of contracted design and installation work.
  • Provides leadership to department heads in a fashion that supports the company's culture, mission and values.
  • The desire and capability to mentor staff, developing their technical expertise.
  • Manage all projects involving the purchase, planning, installation, software integration and commissioning of new production machinery and processes.
  • Develop and deliver project presentations and updates to all levels of management.

Senior Process Engineer and Process Engineer Specific Responsibilities:

  • Lead individual projects involving the purchase, planning, installation, software integration and commissioning of new production machinery and processes.
  • Develop ROI and RFQ documentation for the justification of new equipment purchases or capital expenditures to improve safety, quality, delivery and/or cost.
  • Prepare design and installation specifications and bid packages.
  • Develop and act upon a Total Preventive Maintenance framework for all critical machines.
  • Participate in planning and data collection as well as in the hands-on operation of the current chemical processes.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Masters or Bachelors degree in Engineering (e.g., Chemical, Biochemical, or Industrial).
  • Industry experience: BS +12 years; MS +10 years (Director of Engineering Level).
  • Industry experience: BS 3 to 7 years; MS 2 to 5 years (Senior Process Engineer and Process Engineer Level).
  • Understanding of cell culture, fermentation, filtration, centrifugation, ion exchange chromatography, evaporation, waste water, etc.
  • Proven experience designing process equipment using fundamental engineering calculations is required.
  • Ability to analyze complex scientific problems and develop technical solutions.
  • Experience with Process Flow Diagrams, P&ID's, instrumentation and control.
  • Expertise in Microsoft suite products including Excel, Project and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively work individually and in a team with minimal supervision.
